Graham Cooke studied both fine art and three-dimensional design, and has subsequently followed a two pronged career; working as a designer in television, theatre and architecture, and practicing as a painter/printmaker. He lives between England and Spain.
Commercial works include large scale exhibition and architectural design projects in London, rural England, New York, Las Vegas, Amsterdam and Spain.
Many of his subjects have immediate appeal: townscapes and buildings, land and seascapes. Three dimensional iconography and illusional forms are interwoven into the pictures, creating a distorted reality. The subject is often quirky, or has a reference to an earlier history or myth. These themes attempt to conspire and play with the unreality of perspective, dimension and representation by distorting and re-evaluating the whole notion of archetypal space and scale, both on paper and canvas.
