Andy’s drive to draw and paint and experiment with what he sees, seeks out the emotional centre of the place that he has been drawn to. The result is a kind of abstraction, a reduction in the elements of the image, which makes us totally engage with his shifting vision. His sharp graphic eye then brings shape and texture to the resultant printmaking which is instantly recognisable and always evocative. He often produces works in series which reveal his evolving view of the world - both landscapes and cityscapes.

Andy exhibits nationally and is represented in numerous galleries round Britain and abroad.

"My work is distilled from paintings and drawings done on location, both landscape and cityscape, imprinting a memory of mood, form and place on which I rely when making the prints. I pursue a visual representation of my subject matter through sensitive, textural mark making that captures an amalgamation of weather and light and the shifting shapes that are experienced sitting within a space for several hours. From these observation drawings and notes I then pare down and abstract to arrive at the final print.

To realise my prints I have embraced both the screenprint and monotype processes, each of which impose and encourage a bold interpretation of these initial paintings done on location but with each offering very different qualities to the final image.

Through its graphic nature and the layering of colour, screenprinting lends a rich simplicity to the prints which, to my eye, clarifies the scene and is very exciting. The reverse is true of the monotype process which offers up sensual and nuanced tonal prints with a depth and complexity that belie the simplicity of ink rolled onto a metal plate, whilst pushing experimentation, intuitiveness and invention in their execution.”
